See Your Favorite Sea Mammals

The Reel Charters takes our guests up close and personal with much of the marine wildlife in the waters off St. Pete Beach. Our guided boat excursions offer participants a close-up view of dolphins in their natural habitat. Captain Patrick and his crew know all the best spots for finding dolphins and can help our guests spy dolphins jumping and flipping by the shores or in the bay. Additionally, during your boat tour, we provide interesting facts and commentary, discussing local fish species, marine wildlife, and the oceanic environments around St. Petersburg. And if our guests are lucky, we might also spot manatees, sea turtles and more during your trip.

We Love Dolphins!

Dolphins are some of the friendliest animals you’ll ever meet. These lovable, playful goofballs love swimming alongside our boats and showing off for our guests. Best of all, the Gulf of Mexico’s dolphin population is thriving, helping ensure you’ll have more than a few encounters with dolphins while on our boat tour. Here are some fun dolphin facts to get you excited to see these incredible creatures:

  • Dolphins are incredibly intelligent animals and have been known to use tools like sponges to protect their snouts while foraging for food on the ocean floor.
  • There are around 90 different species of dolphins, and they can be found in waters all around the world, from oceans to freshwater rivers.
  • Dolphins communicate with each other using a variety of sounds, including clicks, whistles, and squeaks, each serving different purposes such as navigation, hunting, and social interaction.
  • The average lifespan of a dolphin in the wild can range from 20 to 50 years, depending on the species.
  • Dolphins are highly social creatures and often live in groups called pods, consisting of anywhere from a few individuals to over a thousand.
  • They have a unique way of sleeping called unihemispheric slow-wave sleep, which allows one half of their brain to rest while the other half remains awake and alert to watch for predators and navigate the waters.
